ABOUT ME
"It's Shana like banana."

I'm Shana Davis, and I'm proudly running for Sandy City Council District 1. I've called Sandy home for nearly 30 years and come from a family dedicated to public service. With a bachelor's degree in Information Systems from BYU and a decade as a senior business systems analyst, I shifted focus to raising my triplet sons. My journey into politics deepened after one of my sons was diagnosed with autism, inspiring me to advocate for children with special needs, serving as a delegate, attending legislative sessions, and educating lawmakers on the need for increased services for people with disabilities.

Now that my kids are grown, I've shifted my focus to volunteering and actively engaging in our community. I am currently serving as a mayor-appointed Sandy City Service Ambassador. I'm passionate about serving the people of Sandy and ensuring every voice is heard.
MY PLATFORM
Advocacy

I’m committed to serving our entire district - not just a few voices, but everyone who wants to be heard. Your thoughts, concerns, and opinions matter to me. I want to create space for open dialogue and make sure that every resident feels seen, valued, and represented. Your voice is important, and I’m here to listen and take action.

While I have been going door-to-door meeting with citizens, many of you have shared your concerns and needs with me.   I’ve already taken action for River Oaks Community, the neighborhood just south of Lone Peak Skate Park, and Historic Sandy.  I am very accessible and I want to serve.
Economic Development

For the past 24 years, I've been a stay-at-home mom to my triplet boys, living right here in Sandy, in the heart of the district, every single day. Over the years, I've built strong relationships with many of our local business owners. I know their challenges, and I've celebrated their successes alongside them.

If you're a small business owner, I invite you to reach out. Share your struggles with me, and let's brainstorm together to find solutions. If there's something I can do, or if you need support from the city, I'll do my best to help make it happen. I have some ideas on how we can promote the small businesses, generate sales tax revenue, and introduce our residents to some hidden gems in Sandy City.  I will share more ideas after I meet with the Economic Development team.

I know we need to revitalize the commercial spaces in Historic Sandy. I can help support that however I am needed.

My father was a small business owner and I learned a lot by watching him. One lesson that's always stayed with me is this: "Never underestimate the importance of goodwill". That principle continues to guide me, and it's at the heart of how I'll serve our business community.
Housing

Affordable housing is essential to the long-term well-being of our community. Everyone—whether they’re young individuals just starting out, growing families, or longtime residents—deserves access to safe, attainable housing options that meet their needs.

As our population ages, it's especially important to support opportunities that allow seniors to age in place and remain in the community they’ve helped build. That means ensuring housing options are not only affordable, but also accessible and thoughtfully designed for different stages of life.

I will never support a zoning change for high density housing in a single-family home residential area.

I have been to all of the housing workshops that city council members have participated in.  I am well aware of the issues regarding housing in our city.  I will work with our city council and city administration for responsible growth while keeping developers accountable.
Fiscal Responsibility

Fiscal responsibility is essential in government to ensure long-term stability, maintain public trust, and avoid burdening future generations with unnecessary debt. A balanced budget reflects a city’s commitment to living within its means while still meeting the needs of its residents.

I will work closely with city council and department heads throughout the budget process to promote thoughtful, responsible financial decisions—ensuring that we live within our financial limits without compromising the essential services our community depends on.
Public Safety

I’m very concerned with Historic Sandy.  I have walked the streets with Mayor Zoltanski and from our conversations, she has reached out to Chief Severson and Amy Bryant to promote Neighborhood Watch. It’s crucial for the safety of the neighborhood that residents know their neighbors. I can help with this. Without neighborhood watch, it is very difficult to improve the safety of the community.

I will always support Chief Severson, the police department, Chief McConaghie and the fire department.

Speed on our streets is the number one area of concern among our citizens. I will work with Chief Severson to support him and speak to our legislators if that is what he needs me to do.

Over the last several years, our neighborhood has experienced a rise in vehicle break-ins, porch piracy, and property damage. Similarly, many businesses in District 1 have faced increased break-ins and shoplifting challenges. These issues impact the safety and well-being of all residents and business owners.

I will work closely with Sandy PD to help educate both the public and local businesses on how to protect their property effectively. This goes beyond simply locking doors - it includes sharing information on the best security systems, surveillance options, lighting, and other tools that deter crime, and keep our community safe.

By empowering residents and business owners with knowledge and resources, we can create a safer, more secure environment for everyone.
